Green Navigation was recently featured in The Conversation Weekly, a podcast that brings together academic experts to discuss global challenges.
In this episode, our COO, Daniel Precioso, explained how Green Navigation supports maritime decarbonization through advanced weather routing. Our platform optimizes vessel routes using wind, wave, and ocean current data. As a result, shipping companies reduce fuel consumption and emissions without hardware modifications.
The shipping industry already produces large volumes of data. However, data alone does not reduce emissions. The key is knowing how to use it. Therefore, we convert environmental data into clear route recommendations. These recommendations deliver measurable impact. Depending on vessel type and route, fuel savings typically range from 5 to 10 percent.
In addition, the episode explores other decarbonization strategies. These include wind-assisted propulsion and alternative fuels. Professor Alice Larkin from the University of Manchester shared insights on the economic and environmental implications of this transition.
This appearance follows our participation in Prototypes for Humanity 2024 in Dubai. More than 2,000 projects applied. Only 100 were selected, and Green Navigation was among them. Since then, interest in practical, data-driven solutions has continued to grow.
